Here's some of what filming them has taught me.

Scale beats quantity. One well-built ceremony piece reads on camera, while a dozen small ones disappear. Color against the background matters more than color by itself: soft whites and greens vanish against a pale sky, and deep tones can get lost against a dark barn, so tell your florist what the ceremony backdrop looks like. And ask for an early bouquet delivery. The first ten minutes of the day, while the flowers are fresh and the light is soft, are when I film the details that open your film.

Marrying outdoors, especially in Glacier National Park? Keep the florals simple and let the landscape carry it. Park ceremony sites allow only minimal setup, everything you bring has to leave with you, and wind is a given, so the whole plan is usually a bouquet, boutonnieres, and maybe a small aisle or arch piece you can carry in. On film, one bouquet against a lake and a wall of peaks beats any installation. The bigger pieces earn their place at a reception afterward in Whitefish or Columbia Falls.
